Co-produced by Flying Lotus and Thundercat with keyboardist Cameron Graves, the album showcases Thundercat’s six-string bass technique across a loose, jazz-fusion-leaning song suite, with guest contributions from Erykah Badu and members of the Brainfeeder collective. It followed his work as a session and touring bassist for Suicidal Tendencies and Erykah Badu, and helped establish him as a solo artist in his own right within the LA beat scene. The record was named among the top Los Angeles jazz albums of 2011 by LA Weekly and earned strong reviews, laying the groundwork for his later, more widely heard albums Apocalypse and Drunk. This pressing marks the album’s 10th anniversary on translucent red vinyl.
