Released by Decca in 1967, four years after Cline’s death in a plane crash, Greatest Hits was produced by Owen Bradley from sessions cut between late 1960 and early 1963 in Nashville. It brings together the string of hits that defined her crossover into pop-inflected country, including “Crazy,” “I Fall to Pieces,” “Walkin’ After Midnight,” and “She’s Got You.” The album has since been certified Diamond by the RIAA with more than ten million U.S. copies sold, and it holds the Guinness World Record for the most weeks spent on the Billboard Country Albums chart by a female artist. Decades after its release it remains the definitive single-disc introduction to Cline’s music and one of the best-selling country albums of all time.
