Crack-Up is Fleet Foxes’ third studio album, released June 16, 2017 on Nonesuch as the band’s first release after a six-year hiatus. Produced by frontman Robin Pecknold and Skyler Skjelset and recorded across six studios including Electric Lady and Sear Sound in New York, the album trades the group’s earlier pastoral folk-pop for denser, more fragmented song suites that fold multiple movements into single tracks. “Third of May / Ōdaigahara,” “Fool’s Errand,” and “If You Need to, Keep Time on Me” were released as singles ahead of the LP. Crack-Up debuted at number nine on the Billboard 200 and was widely praised by critics as a bold artistic leap, with its structurally ambitious songwriting reflecting Pecknold’s time studying at Columbia University during the band’s break.
