Co-produced by Crockett and Billy Horton and recorded at Fort Horton Studios in Wyldwood, Texas, Lil G.L.’s Blue Bonanza is the second entry in Crockett’s Lil G.L. series and leans further into blues than its predecessor, reworking songs associated with artists like T-Bone Walker, Charles Brown, Jimmy Reed, and George Jones. Released independently in December 2018 on Crockett’s own Son of Davy label in partnership with Thirty Tigers, the album reflects Crockett’s background as a busking street musician who built his repertoire on classic blues and honky-tonk standards. It reached the US Top Blues Albums and Heatseekers Albums charts in 2019, part of the prolific run of releases that established Crockett as one of the most distinctive traditionalist voices in contemporary Texas country and blues. The record’s raw, unpolished feel underscores Crockett’s reputation as a keeper of older American musical traditions.
