Released on Fania in 1978, Siembra transformed salsa with socially conscious lyrics that tackled consumerism, identity, and Latin American unity. Rubén Blades' storytelling and Willie Colón's sophisticated arrangements shine on “Plástico,” “Buscando Guayaba,” and “Pedro Navaja,” a Latin twist on the “Mack the Knife” story that became a pop-culture phenomenon. For decades it stood as the best-selling album in salsa history.
