The Sky Is Crying is a posthumous compilation assembled by Jimmie Vaughan from studio outtakes his brother Stevie Ray recorded between 1984 and 1989, released in 1991, fourteen months after Vaughan’s death in a helicopter crash. The set includes an Elmore James cover as its title track, a widely praised instrumental take on Jimi Hendrix’s “Little Wing,” and the stripped-down acoustic closer “Life by the Drop.” It became Vaughan’s highest-charting album, reaching No. 10 on the Billboard 200, and its arrangement of “Little Wing” won a Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance.
