Sonic Youth | Goo | Vinyl

Goo is Sonic Youth's 1990 sixth album and their first for a major label, a noise-rock record that helped bridge underground alternative music with a broader mainstream audience ahead of grunge's commercial breakthrough the following year. The band's detuned guitar experimentation on tracks like “Kool Thing,” featuring Chuck D of Public Enemy, showed a band uniquely positioned between art-rock and pop accessibility. The album's Raymond Pettibon-designed cover art has become nearly as iconic as the music itself, a defining image of early-'90s alternative culture.
