Till the Sun Turns Black is Ray LaMontagne’s second studio album, released August 29, 2006 on RCA, produced by Ethan Johns (Kings of Leon, Ryan Adams) and recorded at Allaire Studios in the Catskills with additional sessions in North Hollywood. Moving beyond the raw folk-soul of his debut Trouble, the album incorporates strings, horns, and richer orchestration into LaMontagne’s gravelly, weathered voice, opening with the six-minute slow-burn “Be Here Now.” “Can I Stay” and “Three More Days” served as promotional singles. The album reached number 28 on the Billboard 200 and was eventually certified gold by the RIAA, cementing LaMontagne’s reputation as one of the era’s most soulful singer-songwriters.
