My Head Is an Animal is the 2012 debut studio album from Icelandic indie-folk group Of Monsters and Men, first released in Iceland in September 2011 before Republic Records issued it internationally in April 2012. Recorded at Studio Syrland in Reykjavik and produced by the band with Aron Arnarsson and Jacquire King, the album is built on the group’s trademark call-and-response vocals, horns, and anthemic folk-pop arrangements. Breakout single “Little Talks” became a global hit, reaching the Billboard Hot 100 top ten, with “Dirty Paws,” “Mountain Sound,” and “Six Weeks” following as additional singles. The album peaked at number six on the Billboard 200 and number one in Iceland, Ireland, and Australia, and its sound helped define the early-2010s indie-folk boom alongside bands like Mumford & Sons and Fleet Foxes.
