And It’s Still Alright is Nathaniel Rateliff’s second solo studio album, released February 14, 2020 on Stax Records (Concord Music Group), stepping back from the horn-driven soul of his Night Sweats band for a hushed, introspective singer-songwriter record. Engineered and mixed by Patrick Meese and James Barone, it was recorded in Oregon and Colorado in the aftermath of the death of Rateliff’s longtime friend and collaborator Richard Swift and the end of his marriage, giving the songs a raw, elegiac tone. The title track and opener “What a Drag” set the reflective mood that runs through the record’s ten songs. The album charted internationally, reaching the Billboard 200 and Top Rock Albums charts in the US along with entries in the UK, Netherlands, Belgium, and Switzerland, and was praised by critics as one of Rateliff’s most personal statements.
