Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge is My Chemical Romance's 2004 second album, a concept record loosely following a man's quest for vengeance after his and his lover's murders, informed partly by real personal loss the band experienced during writing. Singles “I'm Not Okay (I Promise)” and “Helena” combined theatrical, gothic imagery with pop-punk hooks that helped define the mid-2000s emo movement. The album's commercial breakthrough set the stage for the band's even bigger follow-up, The Black Parade, two years later.
