The Best of Muddy Waters, originally released by Chess in April 1958, was one of the first blues LPs ever compiled, gathering twelve singles Waters cut between 1948 and 1954 with collaborators including Little Walter, Willie Dixon, and Jimmy Rogers. Nearly every track — “Hoochie Coochie Man,” “I Just Want to Make Love to You,” “Rollin’ Stone” — became a blues and rock standard, covered by everyone from the Rolling Stones to Muddy’s own postwar Chicago disciples. Inducted into the Blues Foundation Hall of Fame in 1983 as a Classic of Blues Recording, this vinyl reissue collects the tracks that essentially built the vocabulary of electric Chicago blues.
