At Newport 1960 documents Muddy Waters and his electric band tearing through a July 3, 1960 set at the Newport Jazz Festival, released by Chess later that year. Sometimes cited as the first live blues album, it captures the crowd audibly dancing in the aisles as Waters and harmonica player James Cotton drive through “Hoochie Coochie Man” and an extended “Got My Mojo Working” that runs into a spontaneous encore. The closing “Goodbye Newport Blues,” with lyrics improvised on the spot by poet Langston Hughes, sealed the set’s legendary status. Rolling Stone ranked it No. 348 on its list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
