Released March 1, 1993 on Select Records, The Jerky Boys turned Johnny Brennan and Kamal Ahmed’s underground cassette tapes of prank phone calls into a proper commercial release, presenting characters like the short-fused “Sol” and the volatile construction worker in short, escalating call-and-reaction sketches rather than traditional songs. The album became a surprise commercial phenomenon for the format, charting on the Billboard 200 and eventually earning RIAA platinum certification, a rare feat for a spoken-word comedy release and one that helped spawn sequel albums, a 1995 feature film, and years of prank-call imitators. Its blend of blue-collar archetypes, escalating profanity, and absurd premises (an Egyptian magician, a firecracker mishap, a dental malpractice call) made it a staple of early-’90s dorm rooms and mixtapes well before prank calls became a YouTube genre unto themselves. This edition presses the twenty-one-track album on white and purple vinyl through Select Records.
