Released on Kill Rock Stars, Monster Songs for Children (also known as 26 Monster Songs for Children) pairs Half Japanese co-founder Jad Fair with his brother David Fair for a charmingly lo-fi children’s record structured as an alphabet: one monster song for each letter, from ‘Abominable Snowman’ to ‘Zombie.’ The songs mix classic horror-movie monsters (Dracula, Frankenstein, the Mummy) with pop-culture and folkloric creatures (Godzilla, the Loch Ness Monster, E.T.), set to simple strummed guitars and narrated introductions aimed at young listeners while retaining the brothers’ offbeat, outsider-pop sensibility. The album has become a cult favorite among fans of Jad Fair’s wider catalog and indie/lo-fi children’s music circles. This vinyl edition, the album’s first pressing on wax, comes on lime with black swirl colored vinyl via Kill Rock Stars.
