After years as the voice of Willie Colón's orchestra, Héctor Lavoe stepped out on his own with La Voz in 1975, with Colón staying on as producer. The album showcases the phrasing and personality that earned Lavoe the nickname “El Cantante de los Cantantes,” with highlights like “El Todopoderoso” and “Rompe Saragüey.” A cornerstone of salsa's golden age.
