The Doors is the band's self-titled 1967 debut, built around Jim Morrison's brooding, theatrical poetry and Ray Manzarek's organ-driven arrangements, which stood in for a traditional bassist across the album. “Light My Fire” became the band's breakthrough hit, while the eleven-minute closing epic “The End” showcased the group's ambition and psychodrama-tinged theatricality from the outset. The record established the Doors as one of the era's most literary and unpredictable rock bands, a reputation Morrison would cultivate until his death four years later.
