Cannonball Adderley | Somethin’ Else | Vinyl

Recorded in March 1958 and produced by Alfred Lion, Somethin’ Else marked Cannonball Adderley’s only album as a leader for Blue Note Records, recorded while he was a member of Miles Davis’s group. Davis appears as a sideman on the date, reportedly choosing much of the material and composing the bluesy title track, and his muted, spacious trumpet playing shapes much of the record’s mood alongside pianist Hank Jones, bassist Sam Jones, and drummer Art Blakey. The opening rendition of “Autumn Leaves” is widely regarded as a definitive hard bop performance of the standard. Long considered one of the essential Blue Note albums, it remains a benchmark recording for both Adderley and Davis, and this pressing is part of Blue Note’s Classic Vinyl Series.
