Recorded across five Jamaican and New York studios with production from Dave Kelly, Donovan Germain, Bobby ‘Digital’ Dixon, Steely & Clevie, and Sylvester Gordon, ‘Til Shiloh marked Buju Banton’s decisive turn from raw dancehall toward conscious, roots-inflected reggae. Singles ‘Murderer,’ ‘Champion,’ and ‘Untold Stories’ — later covered by Sinéad O’Connor — showcased a newly introspective songwriter grappling with violence, faith, and identity. The album reached #148 on the Billboard 200, was certified Gold by the RIAA, and drew comparisons from critic Robert Christgau to the best work of Black Uhuru. Widely regarded as a landmark of 1990s reggae, ‘Til Shiloh is frequently cited as the album that redefined Banton’s career and helped usher dancehall toward a more spiritually engaged sound.
