Delta Kream is the Black Keys’ 2021 tribute to Mississippi hill country blues, recorded in roughly ten hours over two unplanned afternoons at Dan Auerbach’s Easy Eye Sound studio in Nashville. Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney reunited with musicians from the source artists’ own bands — guitarist Kenny Brown, who played with R.L. Burnside, and bassist Eric Deaton, who backed Junior Kimbrough — to cut loose, largely live takes of songs by Burnside, Kimbrough, John Lee Hooker, and Fred McDowell. It marked the duo’s first all-covers blues record since their 2006 Junior Kimbrough tribute EP and drew praise as an unpretentious return to their roots.
