Produced by Orrin Keepnews from tapes cut across five sets at the Village Vanguard, this album finds pianist Bill Evans, bassist Scott LaFaro, and drummer Paul Motian at the height of their interplay, a trio widely credited with redefining the piano-bass-drums format as a conversation among equals rather than a soloist plus rhythm section. LaFaro’s own compositions, ‘Gloria’s Step’ and ‘Jade Visions,’ bookend the program, while readings of ‘My Man’s Gone Now,’ ‘Solar,’ and ‘Alice in Wonderland’ showcase the trio’s telepathic, tempo-shifting rapport. LaFaro was killed in a car accident just eleven days after this session, making the recording a poignant final document of the group; further material from the same day later surfaced on Waltz for Debby and More from the Vanguard. This edition is pressed on limited 180g solid green vinyl.
