Produced by Frank Dukes alongside the band, III moved BADBADNOTGOOD — keyboardist Matthew Tavares, bassist Chester Hansen, and drummer Alexander Sowinski — away from the hip-hop cover sets of their earlier work toward fully original compositions, with saxophonist Leland Whitty joining as a key collaborator. Tracks like ‘Confessions’ and the sprawling ‘Kaleidoscope’ fuse live jazz improvisation with hip-hop-informed production and cinematic strings arranged by Tommy Paxton-Beesley, while ‘Can’t Leave the Night’ later found a second life as the opening theme for Netflix’s ‘Lockwood & Co.’ Released May 6, 2014 on Innovative Leisure, the album earned a Polaris Music Prize longlist nod and widespread critical praise for redefining what a young jazz group could sound like in the streaming era. This pressing spreads the record’s nine tracks across a 2LP vinyl set.
