Weezer (the Green Album) is Weezer's 2001 third album, a return to the band's power-pop roots after a five-year hiatus that followed the poor initial reception of the more personal Pinkerton. Produced by Ric Ocasek, who had also produced their 1994 debut, the tightly focused, hook-driven songwriting on “Island in the Sun” and “Hash Pipe” marked a deliberate simplification after Pinkerton's raw messiness. The album's commercial success helped reestablish Weezer's career, proving the band could still connect with a mainstream audience after their extended absence.
