Violent Femmes is the band's self-titled 1983 debut album, a raw, largely acoustic punk-folk record built on Gordon Gano's nervy, confessional songwriting and the band's stripped-down, percussive arrangements. “Blister in the Sun” and “Add It Up” became slow-building cult favorites that eventually turned into generational anthems, despite the album never charting on the Billboard 200 during its initial release. It's since been certified multi-platinum through steady, decades-long sales, a genuine word-of-mouth success story unlike almost any other album of its era.
