Loaded is the Velvet Underground's 1970 fourth album, a more accessible, pop-oriented record made under label pressure to deliver something “loaded with hits” after years of commercial struggle. “Sweet Jane” and “Rock & Roll” became the band's most enduring, widely covered songs, showing Lou Reed's melodic songwriting could reach a broader audience than their earlier avant-garde work. Ironically, Reed left the band before the album's release and missed its slow-building influence on the decades of rock that followed.
