Purgatory is Tyler Childers' 2017 major-label debut, a rootsy blend of country, bluegrass, and outlaw storytelling produced by fellow Kentucky artist Sturgill Simpson. Songs like “Feathered Indians” and “Whitehouse Road” showcase Childers' vivid, plainspoken songwriting about Appalachian life, love, and hard living. The album established him as one of the leading voices of the new-traditionalist country movement, building a devoted grassroots following well before mainstream country radio caught on.
