Sound & Fury is Sturgill Simpson's 2019 fifth album, a hard-rock and synth-driven departure from the country and Americana sound that had defined his earlier catalog, released alongside an accompanying Netflix anime film of the same name. The record's fuzzy, distorted production and aggressive tempo shifts on tracks like “Sing Along” showed Simpson deliberately confounding expectations after his more traditional country breakthroughs. It earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Album, an unusual crossover honor for an artist who first built his reputation firmly within country music.
