Mother's Milk is the Red Hot Chili Peppers' 1989 fourth album, made in the aftermath of guitarist Hillel Slovak's death from a heroin overdose, and introducing a then-eighteen-year-old John Frusciante as his replacement. The band's cover of Stevie Wonder's “Higher Ground” became their first taste of mainstream airplay, hinting at the funk-rock crossover success that would follow. The record marked a turning point for the band, both musically and in terms of the tragedy that shaped its creation.
