Automatic for the People is R.E.M.'s 1992 eighth album, presented here in a 25th anniversary deluxe edition. A somber, introspective record about mortality and loss, built on strings arranged by Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones, the album marked a dramatic tonal shift from the jangle-pop of R.E.M.'s earlier catalog. Singles “Everybody Hurts” and “Man on the Moon” became some of the band's most enduring songs, and the record is regarded as one of their finest achievements.
