Surfer Rosa is the Pixies' 1988 debut album, a raw, dynamic record produced by Steve Albini using unconventional recording techniques, including drums captured in a bathroom for extra reverb. Black Francis's screamed, surreal lyricism and the band's abrupt shifts between quiet verses and explosive choruses on “Where Is My Mind?” established a sound that would directly shape the coming grunge movement.
