Co-produced by frontman Danny Elfman and guitarist Steve Bartek, the album sharpened the band’s horn-driven, quirky new wave sound into its most commercially successful statement. It includes “Weird Science,” written for the John Hughes film of the same name, alongside the title track and “Just Another Day,” which reached the Billboard Hot 100. AllMusic praised Elfman’s increasingly sophisticated horn charts and lyricism, and the record went on to become the band’s first gold-certified album. Its title track has since become a perennial Halloween radio staple.
