The album leans heavily on the doom-influenced sound of Kurt Cobain's Melvins fandom, a heavier and less melodic approach than the band's later work would take. Songs like “About a Girl” hint at the pop sensibility Cobain would develop further, but Bleach remains the rawest document of Nirvana's earliest sound.
