Part of Columbia/Legacy’s Bootleg Series, this release documents a March 24, 1960 concert recorded in Copenhagen during the final European tour Miles Davis and John Coltrane played together before Coltrane departed to lead his own group. The set captures the quintet, with pianist Wynton Kelly, bassist Paul Chambers, and drummer Jimmy Cobb, stretching out on “So What,” “On Green Dolphin Street,” and “All Blues” with an intensity that studio recordings from the period rarely captured. The performance offers a rare document of Coltrane’s increasingly exploratory soloing just before he stepped out from Davis’s shadow. This 140-gram vinyl edition includes a digital download code and draws on tape long circulated among collectors before its official release.
