Unknown Pleasures is Joy Division's 1979 debut, produced by Martin Hannett with a cold, cavernous sound built from unconventional studio techniques that stripped the band's live intensity down to something eerier and more spacious. Peter Saville's cover art, a stacked plot of radio waves from a pulsar, has become one of the most recognized images in music, reproduced on more t-shirts than perhaps any other album cover. Tracks like “She's Lost Control” and “Disorder” laid the groundwork for post-punk and goth rock that followed.
