Released in Brazil in 1959, Chega de Saudade introduced the world to João Gilberto's hushed vocals and his revolutionary guitar rhythm. With arrangements by Antonio Carlos Jobim, the album gathers songs by Jobim, Vinicius de Moraes, Carlos Lyra, and Gilberto himself, including the title track, “Desafinado,” and “Bim Bom.” Its understated fusion of samba and cool jazz changed Brazilian popular music almost overnight and inspired a generation of musicians at home and abroad.
