Donuts is J Dilla's 2006 instrumental album, released just three days before his death from a rare blood disease, much of it composed on a hospital bed with an MPC and portable turntable. The record's dense, sample-flipped beats, many under two minutes long, reveal a producer working at the outer edge of his craft even while gravely ill. Widely regarded as one of the greatest hip-hop production albums ever made, it has influenced generations of beatmakers and producers since its release.
