American Idiot is Green Day's 2004 rock opera, a politically charged concept album following the character “Jesus of Suburbia” through disaffection, addiction, and rebellion in post-9/11 America. The nine-minute title suite tracks show the band embracing ambitious, multi-part song structures far beyond the three-minute pop-punk of their earlier work. The album revitalized Green Day's career, won the Grammy for Best Rock Album, and later became the basis for a Tony-nominated Broadway musical.
