The Fall is Gorillaz's 2011 fourth album, recorded largely on an iPad using the GarageBand app during the band's North American tour bus travels, giving the record a genuinely lo-fi, sketch-like quality distinct from the band's typically maximalist production. Damon Albarn's improvisational, on-the-road approach captures a looser, more spontaneous side of the project rarely heard elsewhere in the catalog. The album offered a low-key, experimental detour between the band's more fully realized studio albums, a curious document of mobile music-making in the early smartphone era.
