The Slim Shady LP is Eminem's 1999 major-label debut, a shock-value, character-driven record built around his violent, satirical “Slim Shady” alter ego, produced largely with mentor Dr. Dre. Singles “My Name Is” and “Guilty Conscience” showcased a rapper willing to court controversy through dark humor and technical wordplay in equal measure. The album won the Grammy for Best Rap Album and launched Eminem into a level of mainstream stardom few rappers had reached before him.
