Rubber Factory is the Black Keys' 2004 third album, recorded in an abandoned tire factory in their hometown of Akron, Ohio, whose cavernous, decaying space gave the record its distinctively raw, echoing sound. Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney's blues-rock duo formula sharpened considerably here, incorporating a wider range of textures while retaining the stripped-down, guitar-and-drums minimalism that defined their earlier work. It's widely regarded as a key entry in the early-2000s garage-blues revival, cementing the Black Keys as one of the movement's most consistently rewarding acts.
