Recorded June 25, 1961 at New York’s Village Vanguard and produced by Orrin Keepnews for Riverside, this album preserves the interplay between pianist Bill Evans, bassist Scott LaFaro, and drummer Paul Motian at the peak of their group conversation — a democratic, contrapuntal approach to the piano trio that reshaped jazz combo playing.
