Licensed to Ill is the Beastie Boys' 1986 debut, produced by Rick Rubin, and the first hip-hop album to top the Billboard 200. Built on hard rock samples, including a prominent lift from Led Zeppelin on “Rhymin & Stealin,” the record fused rap with arena-rock bravado in a way that hadn't been done before at that scale. “(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!)” became an unintended party anthem the band later distanced themselves from, even as the album's influence on rap-rock crossover proved lasting.
