Check Your Head is the Beastie Boys' 1992 fourth album, a return to playing their own instruments after years of sample-based production, blending punk, funk, and hip-hop into a looser, jam-influenced sound. Recorded in their own G-Son studio in Los Angeles, the album's DIY spirit gave rise to instrumental tracks alongside rap songs like “So What'cha Want” and “Pass the Mic.” It marked a creative reinvention for the group, reestablishing their credibility after the commercial disappointment of Paul's Boutique.
